Robert M. Reid has been part of the Soemadipradja & Taher team since 2000, having been originally seconded from Freehills’ Sydney office where Robert held the position of Executive Counsel in the projects group in 2012.  Robert’s main practice areas in Indonesia include corporate/M&A, energy & natural resources and employment law.

Since1995 Robert has been involved in legal practice in Asia, including a one year secondment to the Hong Kong offices of leading Canadian based law firm, Stikeman Elliott, and nearly 4 years in the Freehills’ offices in Hanoi, Vietnam, where Robert advised clients on various infrastructure, mining and telecommunications projects, working in a difficult and challenging legal regulatory environment. 

For the past 14 years in Indonesia, Robert has been involved in numerous major projects, acting for multinational and local clients in a wide variety of significant commercial projects, including in the corporate, M&A, mining, telecommunications, banking and finance, employment, capital markets and insurance sectors. Robert has also developed expertise in assisting clients in their conduct of commercial litigation.

Robert holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) and Bachelor of Laws from the University of New South Wales. He regularly contributes the Indonesian segment of various international publications on mining, project finance, foreign investment and dispute resolution, and is a member of the Australia Indonesia Business Council and the Inter-Pacific Bar Association. 

Robert is recognised by Asialaw Leading Lawyers as a highly acclaimed legal expert in the Asia-Pacific region in the field of Corporate/M&A (2014) and by Chambers Asia-Pacific and Chambers Global (2014) as a leading Corporate/M&A lawyer.
