Rahmat Sadeli Soebagia Soemadipradja has been practising law for over 26 years and is a recognised leader in the Indonesian energy & natural resources sector, particularly in mining.
After his initial four years of practice with a prominent Indonesian law firm, Rahmat joined the leading Australian law firm Freehills, on secondment, at its Sydney office.
He, together with Hafzan Taher, established Soemadipradja & Taher in 1991.
Rahmat’s main areas of practice include energy & natural resources, particularly mining, the environment, forestry, general corporate & investment, including regulatory and compliance, capital markets and project finance.
Recently, Rahmat has been assisting clients and industry players to understand the implications of the 2009 mining law and implementing regulations.
Rahmat holds a Sarjana Hukum (Bachelor of Laws) from the Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia, Jakarta, majoring in Commercial Law; and an LL.M. (Master of Laws) degree from the University of Virginia School of Law. He is also a sworn translator of English legal documents and a lecturer at the University of Indonesia.
Rahmat is a licensed Advocate and a member of the Indonesian Advocates Association (PERADI), the Indonesian Mining Association (IMA), the International Bar Association, the Inter-Pacific Bar Association and the Australian Mining and Petroleum Law Association.
